Youth Volunteer Opportunities

DISASTER AND EMERGENCY SERVICES
Emergency Help
In case of a local emergency, youth volunteers are needed to help with the victims, hand out cleanup kits, data entry, and whatever the emergency may need.

Application Specialist:  
Help the Elderly, low income and disabled apply for the OPPD Energy Assistance Program.  Assist in completing paperwork.

Puppet Show Scheduler: 
Schedule puppeteers for the "Fire Safety for Little People" puppet show program featuring the Muppets.  Contact licensed day care providers to arrange date and time of performances.

Coordinator of "Fire Safety for Little People."  
Responsibilities include promoting program, scheduling performances, working with volunteer puppeteers, distributing program materials, and developing and tabulating evaluations.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Volunteers are needed to represent the Red Cross Heartland Chapter at special events, distributing information, working booths, and answering questions people might have about the American Red Cross and it's services.

BLOOD SERVICES
Greeter, Register, and Canteen Worker
Help collect blood for the American Red Cross when they use the Bloodmobile to collect blood from a site, by greeting the prospective donor, helping them with the paperwork, or give them a donut and orange juice after the process is over.

HOSPITAL
Red Cross volunteers work in area hospitals including The Veterans Administration Medical Center, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Clarkson Hospital, St. Josephs Hospital, Immanuel Hospital, Methodist and Children's Hospitals, and the USAF Ehrling Bergquist Hospital located in Bellevue.  Volunteers may work with patient mail, deliver flowers, and handle the hospitality book cart.  Actual duties and schedules may vary at each hospital.

CLERICAL
Office and Clerical Support
Greet visitors, answer phones, take course registrations, organize materials, data entry, and assist with mailings.

YOUTH COUNCIL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
If you join the Youth Council, the special club of high school volunteers for the Heartland Chapter, you will be able to participate in many more activities such as
