Emergency Services
Trained paid and volunteer Heartland Chapter staff work with people in our community during times of personal crisis.
During the 1999-2000 fiscal year, the Heartland Chapter:
- provided food for 6,458 people from 2,160 families through the emergency food pantry, a pantry open when others are closed.
- Distributed $93,737 to 510 families that needed help paying their utility bills, thanks to contributions to the Energy Assistance Program from Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) rate payers.
- Distributed 456 fans to the low income and elderly.
- More than 200 local volunteers assisted more than 1,000 victims of a flash flood in Omaha during the month of August in 1999. Nearly $500,000 worth of assistance (food, clothing, new bedding, new electrical appliances) was provided to those flood victims.
The Office of Emergency Services also refers those affected by personal crisis to other community resources.
