REGISTRATION

All disaster training is free of charge.  No written confirmation of enrollment will be sent.  Class enrollment is limited.

  • Advance registration is required for all classes.
  • You can register by phone, mail, fax, in person, orby e-mail.
  • For disaster training, a minimum of six participants per class is required.  If a disaster class is canceled, participants will be notified by phone 24 to 48 hours in advance.
  • We reserve the right to change this schedule at any time.  Classes not meeting enrollment requirements may be rescheduled.
  • During daytime classes, lunch is on your own; participants receive a half-hour break for lunch.
  • All Red Cross buildings are smoke-free.
To register by phone:  Call (402) 343-7700 between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and ask for Emergency Services.

Introduction to Disaster Services (ARC 3066)
Fundamental information about disasters and their effects and the roles of the American Red Cross and other agencies in disaster response. NOTE: This is a prerequisite for all other disaster courses.

Heartland Chapter Orientation to the Disaster Action Team (HODAT)
Provides candidates for the Heartland Chapter's Disaster Action Team (DAT) with the details of how the Team responds to an emergency incident. The workshop also provides an overview of the services given in the field by the DAT team and an introduction to the services of the Red Cross disaster program.  NOTE: This is a prerequisite for membership on the DAT. Persons taking this workshop MUSThave completed Orientation to Red Cross through the Human Resources Department and MUST have had an interview with Disaster Services.

Mass Care Overview (ARC 3068-1)
Provides participants with basic information about the activities of the Red Cross Mass Care function on a disaster operation. Participants will learn about the skills and abilities needed by Mass Care workers and how they can get started in their local chapter. Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services.

Shelter Operations (3068-11)
The purpose of this class is to prepare Red Cross and other agencies' staff to effectively and sensitively manage shelter operations as a team and to meet the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster. Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services.

Shelter Simulation (ARC 3068-12)
The purpose of this training is to provide participants an opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills needed to run a successful shelter operation. As a result of this training, participants should be able to demonstrate shelter opening, operating, and closing procedures, identify and use a variety of resources available to assist shelter workers, work as a team to provide quality shelter services to clients and address common shelter problems effectively.

Logistics Overview (ARC 3071-1)
Provides basic information about the activities and processes of the Logistics function in support of an American Red Cross disaster relief operation. Participants will learn skills needed by Logistics workers and how they can apply these skills in their work at the local chapter. Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services.

Logistics Simulation (ARC 3071-2)
Provides participants with the opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills needed to run a successful logistical operation at their local chapter. Prerequisites: Introduction to Disaster Services and Logistics Overview.

Family Services: Providing Emergency Assistance (ARC 307200)
The purpose of this course is to introduce the participants to the Family Services function. Participants will learn the skills needed to conduct an effective client interview, be introduced to the tools used in providing assistance and will become familiar with the helping process used in meeting the victims immediate disaster caused needs.Application for 6.0 Continuing Education Hours in Social Work is pending.

Disaster Health Services - An Overview (ARC 3076199)
Provides the role DHS plays in relief operation and explains commitment and values. Describes assignment settings and describes ways in which DHS assists staff and clients on a relief operation.

Disaster Health Services- Simulation (ARC 3076200)
Provides participants an opportunity to practice knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to work in the Disaster Health Services function. Prerequisite: Disaster Health Services: An Overview.
