HIV/AIDS STARTER FACTS COURSE - ($35/4 hours)
($15 if participants elect to test out of Starter Facts/4 hours)

This course offers individuals knowledge and skills which enable them to separate facts from misinformation and opinions on HIV and AIDS.  Upon successful completion, participants will receive an American Red Cross HIV/AIDS Starter Facts Certificate, valid for one year.  This course, or successful testing out of the course, is required for all candidates entering the Basic HIV/AIDS Instructor: Fundamentals Program.  Must be 17 years of age or older.  Class size limited to 15.  Cost includes the American Red Cross HIV/AIDS Facts Book.
 
 
HIV/AIDS FACTS PRACTICE COURSE ($20/4 hours)
This course will help participants develop knowledge and skills they need to share information about HIV and AIDS.  Must be 17 years of age or older and possess a current HIV/AIDS Starter Facts Certificate.  Class size limited to 15.  Upon successful completion, participants will receive an American Red Cross HIV/AIDS Facts Practice Certificate, valid for one year.  This course is required for all candidates entering the Basic HIV/AIDS Instructor: Fundamentals Program.
 

STARTER FACTS  INSTRUCTOR COURSE ($35 - 8 hours)
This course is designed to prepare Fundamentals and Prevention Skills instructors in the American Red Cross, Basic, African American, and Hispanic HIV/AIDS programs to teach Starter Facts. Participants will become familiarized with all Starter Facts course exercises and required materials. This course also prepares candidates to facilitate Starter Facts course activities. Must be 17 years of age, certified as a current Fundamentals or Prevention Skills instructor in the Basic, African American or Hispanic American HIV/AIDS Programs. Class size limited to 15. Upon successful completion candidates will receive certification recognizing them as Starter Facts instructors, validated annually.
 

BASIC:  FUNDAMENTAL HIV/AIDS INSTRUCTOR COURSE ($80/2 days - 16 hours)
This course was developed to train candidates to share facts about HIV and AIDS accurately, non-judgmentally and with sensitivity to people from diverse groups and communities.  Participants will learn how to encourage people to apply these facts to their own behavior.  Must be 17 years of age or older and possess a current Starter Facts and Facts Practice Certificate. Class size limited to 15.  Upon successful completion, participants will receive certification recognizing them as American Red Cross Basic: Fundamentals HIV/AIDS Instructor, validated annually.
 

AFRICAN AMERICAN HIV/AIDS FUNDAMENTALS INSTRUCTOR COURSE ($90/3 days - 24 hours)
This course is designed to give African Americans, particularly young people 12 and above, sound reality-based information that will enhance their decision-making skills and supports self-protective behaviors. During this course individuals are trained to facilitate accurate, nonjudgmental, and culturally appropriate HIV/AIDS prevention sessions in African American communities. This instructional program uses culturally specific and age-appropriate language and communication techniques to accomplish this goal. The instructor training includes all the skills in the Basic: Fundamental HIV/AIDS instructor training along with the culturally specific components. Must be 17 years of age and in possession of a current Starter Facts and Facts Practice certificate issued within the past 12 months. Class size limited to 15. Upon successful completion, instructors may receive dual certification as an instructor in both the African American and Basic Fundamentals Program, validated annually.
 

HISPANIC AMERICAN HIV/AIDS FUNDAMENTALS INSTRUCTOR COURSE ($90/3 days - 24 hours)
This course is designed to prepare instructors who, as facilitators in the community sessions will share HIV/AIDS information with Hispanic community members, using cultural enablers to make the information relevant to their lives. During this training instructors will be taught how to encourage participants in a community session to apply the facts about HIV/AIDS to their behavior. Must be 17 years of age and in possession of a current Facts Practice certificate issued within the past 12 months. Class size limited to 15. Upon successful completion, instructors may receive dual certification as an instructor in both the Hispanic and Basic HIV/AIDS Programs: Fundamentals, validated annually.
 

PREVENTION SKILLS INSTRUCTOR COURSE $65 (Two Days: 16 hours)
This course is designed to prepare instructors who can help participants in Red Cross community sessions build the skills they need to prevent HIV infection. Must be 17 years of age, certified as a current Basic HIV/AIDS Program Fundamentals instructor. Class size limited to 15. Upon successful completion candidates will receive certification recognizing them as a Basic: HIV/AIDS Program: Prevention Skills Instructor, validated annually.
 

WORKPLACE HIV/AIDS INSTRUCTOR COURSE ($40/3 days - 24 hours)
This course prepares instructors to assess the needs of the workplace, select workplace modules, distinguish between legal information and legal advice when sharing information about workplace discrimination laws.  Participants will be trained to answer audience questions, initiate dialogues to share information about workplace issues related to HIV infection and plan presentations that meet the specific needs of their audience in an accurate, nonjudgmental and culturally sensitive way.  Must be 17 years of age or older, certified as a current Fundamental or Prevention Skills HIV/AIDS instructor and certified in Standard First Aid.  Upon successful completion, candidates will receive certification recognizing them as an American Red Cross Workplace HIV/AIDS instructor, validated annually.
