| OMAHA, NE September 3, 2010 – In Nebraska, accidental injury is the number one killer of children and drowning is the second. A recent grant from Wells Fargo will allow the Red Cross and its partners to reach out to under-served audiences in low-income neighborhoods and provide Basic Aid Training (BAT) and swim lessons to children that would normally not have the opportunity. |

| 8/30/2010 - Red Cross Urges People to Get Prepared |
| OMAHA, NEB., August 27, 2010- September 2010 is National Preparedness Month, a time set aside for the last seven years to encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities. The Heartland Chapter has helped organize a preparedness fair with Citizens Corps and other community partners to do just that before the Omaha Royals game on Wednesday, September 1st. The interactive preparedness fair will be outside Rosenblatt Stadium from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will include emergency vehicles, family friendly activities and a live preparedness press conference with state, county and city officials at 6:30p.m. |

| 8/19/2010 - Thomas Jefferson Teacher to Receive National Certificate of Merit for Saving Co-worker’s Life |
| COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA, August 18, 2010— Thomas Jefferson High School teachers Lori Williams and Nichole Vetter won’t soon forget February 11th or the events that unraveled before an away basketball game. The pre-game warm-up turned into a life or death situation after Williams collapsed on the gym floor without a pulse. Vetter, a Red Cross CPR Instructor, administered three rounds of CPR and was able to get William’s heart beating again. For this heroic act, the Loess Hills Chapter will present Vetter with the National American Red Cross Certificate of Merit on Friday, August 20th at 2:20p.m. at Thomas Jefferson High School’s pep rally. |

Red Cross Responds to Four Fires and One Gas Leak in Less than 12 Hours
|
| OMAHA, NEB., June 30, 2010— As local flood relief starts to come to a trickle across the state volunteers at the Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross haven’t had a chance to rest as they responded to four fires and one gas leak in less than 12 hours. Eight volunteers assisted more than 33 clients with food, clothing, shelter, comfort and care based on need. The chapter has responded to 23 fires in the month of June assisting 84 people total while at the same time supporting the states recent flood victims. |

| OMAHA, NEB. Monday, June 21, 2010 – The American Red Cross will be opening an Emergency Aide Station at the entrance to Kings Lake, near Elkhorn, NE. Mental Health volunteers and Nurses will be on hand to talk to area residents about the flooding disaster and address any minor medical issues. The station will also have information about recovery for flood victims, snacks, drinks, clean-up kits, and comfort kits. |

| OMAHA, NEB. Monday, June 21, 2010- Last night the American Red Cross transitioned their daytime comfort center from the City Auditorium to a central location shared by partner agencies at 606 West Phillip Ave. This location will be a one-stop shop for flood assistance from the Red Cross and other partner agencies. This Red Cross comfort center will be open from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. daily, or as needed, offering snacks and a place to cool down and rest. Anyone affected by flooding is welcome here for some rest and recuperation as they continue to face the daunting task of clean up in the coming weeks. |

The luncheon event was held at Champions Run and was not only an annual business meeting for members of the board, donors and volunteers, but was also a time where community awards were presented and new board members were presented. Haiti native Dr. Rubens Pamies was featured as the keynote speaker who shared his first-hand experiences of serving in Haiti just days after the deadly earthquake. |

Dr. Pamies will speak about his personal experiences of leading a local medical team into Haiti just days following this year’s deadly earthquake. | OMAHA, Neb., Wednesday, May 12, 2010 — From the plains of the Midwest to the deep south, the American Red Cross is providing a safe place to stay and relief supplies for thousands of people displaced by tornadoes and floods. Even as relief operations continue full force in Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama, the Red Cross has opened shelters in Oklahoma after Monday night’s tornadoes. Thirteen Red Cross volunteers from Nebraska are currently deployed on these disaster operations in the south with other volunteer’s on-call to go at a moments notice.
