The American Red Cross Heartland Chapter responds to over 200 disasters each year, including residential fires, floods, hazardous material incidents and community emergencies. Services are provided through the efforts of our Disaster Action Teams, which include volunteers and staff, who offer assistance to support the immediate emergency needs created by a disaster. Our teams respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing shelter, food, clothing, medical supplies, clean up kits, mental health support and other needed items. We also provide referrals to other community organizations to assist with additional needs and information to assist with planning long-term recovery. All disaster assistance provided from the Red Cross is free of charge made possible by generous donations of the American people.
Disaster Training
As part of the Red Cross mission, volunteers are actively working with the community to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Our Chapter offers training to provide basic information to potential disaster volunteers and members of other local agencies. The disaster training calendar is published three times a year, and additional classes may be added after the calendar is published based on community need.
